Alonso frankly admitted Real Madrid's defeat: "We will criticize ourselves and continue to work hard."

After Real Madrid's 1-2 defeat to Manchester City in the sixth round of the Champions League group stage, manager Xabi Alonso admitted that despite the team's injuries and mental pressure, the players had given their all and he was satisfied with the team's attitude.

The match was highly competitive, with Real Madrid starting strong, Rodrygo scoring early and creating several chances. However, a brief lapse in concentration allowed Manchester City to take the lead within ten minutes through a corner and a penalty.

In the post-match press conference, Alonso pointed out that despite the unfavorable situation, the team persevered and never gave up: "Given the current difficulties, including injuries, the team has shown a strong will, and I have no criticism of them."

“We will be self-critical, and we have high expectations of ourselves. We will continue to work hard, and I believe we can get through this low point, because all difficulties will pass.”

Regarding the boos at the Bernabéu, Alonso expressed his understanding: "It's nothing new here. The fans want to see a victory, and we have to accept these sounds, but we also know that they give us tremendous support at other times."

"The season is still long. You're interpreting things in one way, but we need to stay calm and continue to improve our mental and physical condition. Today's situation may change in the future. Results are results, but how we interpret them is another matter."

Speaking about his personal mindset, Alonso admitted that as Real Madrid's manager, he must learn to withstand pressure and face ups and downs with courage, responsibility, and self-reflection. He stated that despite the less-than-ideal results, he still saw positive changes both personally and as a team, but also acknowledged shortcomings.

“Although we didn’t win, I still saw positive things on both an individual and team level. Of course, there were some things we didn’t do well enough, but at least for now we’re still in competition,” Alonso added.
